Shine brightly at this year’s Protea Party

Posted on Sep 6, 2019 Leave a Comment on Shine brightly at this year’s Protea Party

Celebrating everything “Bright and Light” will be the theme of the sixth annual Protea Party, taking place at the spectacular Anthonij Rupert Estate in Franschhoek on Saturday 26 October 2019.

Regarded as one of the Cape Winelands’ social calendar highlights, Anthonij Rupert Wyne’s annual winelands harvest-style feast promises a night not to forget as it continues to celebrate the estate’s beloved Protea wine range. With the spotlight shone on the latest releases in this range, this one-night-only annual affair offers deliciously-inspired seasonal cuisine, superb wines and generous hospitality.

The Protea range – which consists of eight single varietal wines – takes its name from the flower species unique to the Cape Floral Kingdom, and is synonymous with elegant design and value for money. Each wine bottle features a unique pattern, inspired by floral elements.

The theme for this year’s Protea Party is “Bright and Light”, which takes its cue from the newest design ‘Daisy fields’ of the Protea Chenin Blanc bottle. The theme is also fitting of the end of a lengthy drought, whilst welcoming a glorious spring season after an abundance of rain. All elements of the evening will celebrate this theme, from twinkling fairylight displays on the tables and a fresh, vibrant menu to the ceiling of stars overhead. Guests are invited to incorporate this into their own outfits, should they wish to do so.

On arrival, guests will be greeted with specially-crafted Protea cocktails to savour as the sun sets on the estate. Dinner – a generous three-course, harvest style feast of seasonal winelands produce – will be served at long tables beneath an expansive marquee. The full range of Protea wines will be available for enjoyment throughout the evening. Entertainment will be provided by a live band and the famous dance-floor is a must for working off all those calories under the stars after dinner!

Tickets cost R795 per guest, and includes all food, wine and entertainment. The Protea Party begins at 6pm for 6:30pm. Pre-booking is essential for this sell-out event. For bookings and/or enquiries, please contact Sumarie Elliot on sumarie@rupertwines.com or 021 874 9019.

It’s a bling bottle of Italian Sparkling Wine 🙌💞 and it’s R500 a bottle 😜

It’s called Vino dell’Amore Petalo Pink Manzoni Moscato Rosé and
is an exclusive and very rare sweet sparkling rosé wine.

This rare grape variety was created by crossing Raboso Piave and Muscat of Hamburg. It has the fresh and fragrant character of the original grapes, a low alcohol content and a distinctive, pleasantly sweet taste. The colour is delicately pink, brilliant, with fine and lasting perlage.

The bouquet is intense and refined, characterised by aromas of roses, raspberry, ripe citrus fruits, and final notes of sage. It is sweet and elegant, harmonic and balanced, with a long aromatic persistence, with acidity and tannins balancing the sugar content.

Pair this sweet sparkling with Provolone Dolce cheese, fruit (apple and pear) and shortbread biscuits. @bottega_africa

Neil Ellis Wines is my 141st South African wine fa Neil Ellis Wines is my 141st South African wine farm visit. They have a “newish” wine tasting centre in Stellenbosch which is absolutely lovely with incredible views.

They didn’t start off like that though, owner Neil Ellis, started winemaking in 1984 and would source grapes from all over Stellenbosch to make his wine in a rented cellar space. Today, this wine has made a brand for itself and is synonymous with top-quality reds! Especially Cabernet Sauvignon.

More info on my blog, link in bio.

Check that swirl! It’s a Cinsaut 2016 from @neil Check that swirl! It’s a Cinsaut 2016 from @neilelliswines 😍

This distinctive style of Cinsaut pays tribute to the heritage of the South African wine industry. A limited release wine, it demonstrates the distinctiveness of specific vineyard sites.

The grapes were sourced from a south-west facing bush vine vineyard grown in decomposed granite and table mountain sandstone.

This wine spent 17 months in 500 l French oak barrels; 20% new, 20% 2nd fill and 60% older.

R315 a bottle available on the Neil Ellis website.
