South African Wine Choices:
Chenin Blanc, believed to be one of the first vine cuttings to arrive in South Africa in 1655, has a deep-rooted history in the country. It was among the vines used to produce the first wine in 1659. Today, Chenin Blanc is celebrated in various styles, from refreshing sippers to complex oaked versions like Leopard’s Leap Culinaria Chenin Blanc and the 100% Chenin Blanc Culinaria MCC.
The story of Pinotage, a truly South African variety, began in 1925 when Professor Perold successfully crossed Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, giving birth to Pinotage. In 1941, Charl Theron de Waal produced the first barrel of Pinotage wine in Stellenbosch. Pinotage offers versatility, ranging from the easy-drinking Leopard’s Leap Classic Pinotage to the more complex Special Edition Pinotage.
