One of my favourite wine farms, Anthonij Rupert, has extended their range of Cap Classique, introducing the L’Ormarins Private Cuvée Cap Classique. A maiden vintage (2014) is now available to purchase for R470 per bottle. This is absolutely an elegant Cap Classique not only in colour and style, but also in the packaging and bottle shape – showcasing the craftsmanship of internationally acclaimed designer and artist, Mark Eisen.
In the Cellar
This Cap Classique has been a project for eight years in the making. Produced from pristine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards, hailing from extraordinary cool climate vineyards on Altima Estate, the L’Ormarins Private Cuvée is the perfect expression of freshness, purity and complexity, akin to the finest internationally produced Champagne-style wines. It is crafted exclusively from the Tête du Cuvée (the finest quality juice from the first ultra gentle whole bunch pressing), to represent the purest expression of L’Ormarins in a single vintage. This exceptional wine is also matured for an extraordinary 72 months on the lees, disgorged and complemented by a further six months under cork before its grand release.

L’Ormarins Private Cuvée Cap Classique Tasting Notes
With a pale onion skin hue, L’Ormarins Private Cuvée offers a vigorous bead of fine, pristine bubbles and aromas of yeast with underlying red berries and stone fruit. These nuances are rounded by subtle honeyed note. As you take your first sip, your palate is met with tangy and refreshing flavours of lemon and marmalade. The same toasty sourdough notes, which were evident on the nose, are further enhanced by a fantail of flavours. A complex and well defined Cap Classique, with nothing out of place – just sumptuous and elegant. The L’Ormarins Private Cuvée is a vibrant and refined wine with timeless power to record and celebrate life’s most precious moments
