Musgrave Gin wins two Silver awards

Musgrave Gin has won two Silver awards in the 2017 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC)

  • Musgrave Gin : Silver 2017 in Gin – Contemporary Styles – South Africa – 43%
  • Musgrave Pink Gin with Rosewater Silver 2017 in Gin – Flavoured – Rosewater

Founded in 1969, the IWSC is considered to be the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world.

The awards given by the competition are believed to be among some of the highest honours in the industry. Judging for the Competition is unique in that it has two stages; first, the products are tasted blind by expert panels, selected from over 300 fully experienced and qualified industry judges. Products which receive the top medals are then subject to technical analysis before results are released; this crucial stage ensures winners receive complete validation.

On receiving this award, founder Simone Musgrave comments, “We are so honoured to win these awards and see Musgrave Gin, our African luxury brand, receive such incredible recognition!”

The Origins of Musgrave Gin

Maurice Boon Musgrave, grandfather of founder Simone Musgrave, left Plymouth in 1949 bound for Africa to start a new life exploring and discovering the people and land of Africa. Three months on a ship with a small baby, a measles outbreak and many a day of seasickness and the adventure that would change the shape of his family had begun.

From then onward an African family would take on the adventure Maurice had started.  The spirit of endeavour, adventure and courage lives on in granddaughter, Simone, guardian of Maurice’s passion for the unusual. Musgrave Gin is no ordinary spirit – it is an artisan gin celebrated for its top notes of Cardamom, African Ginger and Grains of Paradise.

About Musgrave 12 Pink Gin

The unparalleled success of Musgrave Gin sees the barely year-old company now birth a new addition to the family in the Musgrave Pink Gin.  Musgrave Pink Gin draws inspiration from the much-loved flavour of the original Musgrave Gin and twins this with a somewhat softer side.

The creation of the Musgrave Pink Gin flows from the desire to add a distinctly feminine touch to the adventurer spirit of the original Musgrave.

The founder and creative driving force behind Musgrave Gin, Simone Musgrave, has found expression of the plentiful delights of a bygone era in her favourite flower – the rose.

The delightful salmon-tinted Musgrave Pink Gin is a doffing of the pith helmet to those days gone by and it celebrates the inspirational flower as a classic symbol of this age.  Beautifully presented and expertly crafted, it almost seems a shame to have to drink this gin – but a shame it certainly is not.

Musgrave Pink Gin is distilled with Musgrave’s signature 11 botanicals, continuing to celebrate distinct top notes of Cardamom, African Ginger and Grains of Paradise.  These heights are then tamed slightly with a dash perfume and a splash of romance.  Rose hips are added during the distilling process and the expressive Cardamom and obligatory Juniper contributions are softened so as not to mask the gentle perfume of the roses.  A further infusion of Rosewater adds a subtly exotic perfume and flavour to the gin.

Simone Musgrave concludes, “I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my family heritage with the world. I would like to thank everybody involved with Musgrave Gin and our consumers who continue to enjoy our product and support our journey.”
