What a wonderful wine to enjoy with sushi! I cracked open a bottle of this super fresh Unoaked Chardonnay 2019 by Middelvlei over the weekend. If you’re a fan of crisp acidity and crunchy peaches on the palate, then you’re in for a winner.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a cooler west-facing vineyard, planted in 2010.
Regarded as one of his favourites, wine maker Tinnie Momberg believes that this wine, made from 100% Chardonnay, is perfectly balanced, with hints of minerality and a well-integrated acidity. As the wine opens up an abundance of typical citrus and peach fruit flavours, with hints of spice come to the fore. The refreshing mouthfeel holds the promise of a lingering aftertaste, resulting in a crisp wine with an appealing freshness. Ready to drink now, but will reach its optimal peak if left in ideal cellaring conditions for the next three to four years.
Enjoy on its own whilst soaking in the Summer rays, or enjoy with light and delicate food such lightly cooked shellfish, steamed or grilled fish, fish pâtés, fish, chicken or vegetable terrines and pasta or risotto with seasonal vegetables.
Available directly off the farm at R95 per bottle as well as select outlets nationwide.
