Get your dad “The Old Man’s Blend”

Posted on Jun 13, 2017 Leave a Comment on Get your dad “The Old Man’s Blend”

If your dad or baby daddy has a good sense of humour, this wine would make the perfect Father’s Day Gift. It’s called the Old Mans Blend by Groote Post and you can watch in pure joy as he gets the hint 😉

The Old Man’s Blend range came into being in 2001 at the behest of Groote Post’s ‘Old Man’, Peter Pentz, who asked the family to blend him a red wine to enjoy as his winter evening tipple. The enormous popularity of The Old Man’s Blend Red established a Groote Post tradition, with The Old Man’s Blend White subsequently added to the range.

Groote Post’s The Old Man’s Blend White 2016

This wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Semillon and retails at approximately R71. The three varietals that make up the blend are each vinified separately. These three components are then blended in different ratios until we are satisfied that we have the final blend that meets The Old Man’s approval. This sauvignon blanc-based wine displays some of the green aromas associated with sauvignon, however fresh floral and tropical notes on the finish make it a very well balanced wine. This wine is a-terrific-value-for-money-crowd-pleaser!” says Groote Post winemaker Lukas Wentzel.

Groote Post’s The Old Man’s Blend Red 2016

This wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc and retails at approximately R75. It is an easy-drinking soft and smooth blended red wine. White pepper, spice and raspberry are prominent on the nose with soft and ripe tannins giving an elegant finish. During the winemaking and wood maturation, the cultivars are kept apart, and The Old Man, Peter Pentz, takes part in rigorous tasting sessions to decide on the final blend. Groote Post’s The Old Man’s Blend range comprises seriously good wines at seriously good prices. Sporting stylish packaging, these wines are available nationally at leading wine retailers and select restaurants.

A Visit to Groote Post: Only an hour’s drive from Cape Town, the historic Groote Post farm presents arustic and rural atmosphere with undulating hills, vast open spaces and warm country hospitality. In addition to a wide range of award-winning wines, Hilda’s Kitchen’s superb culinary experience and Farm Drives through the private game camp and vineyards, Groote Post also offers a superb wedding venue; monthly country markets in the summer; a child-friendly area with a jungle gym and rolling lawns; beautiful views of the Atlantic coast and Table Mountain; nature walks; bird-watching in the hide on the dam and spectacular West Coast flowers in spring.

It’s a bling bottle of Italian Sparkling Wine 🙌💞 and it’s R500 a bottle 😜

It’s called Vino dell’Amore Petalo Pink Manzoni Moscato Rosé and
is an exclusive and very rare sweet sparkling rosé wine.

This rare grape variety was created by crossing Raboso Piave and Muscat of Hamburg. It has the fresh and fragrant character of the original grapes, a low alcohol content and a distinctive, pleasantly sweet taste. The colour is delicately pink, brilliant, with fine and lasting perlage.

The bouquet is intense and refined, characterised by aromas of roses, raspberry, ripe citrus fruits, and final notes of sage. It is sweet and elegant, harmonic and balanced, with a long aromatic persistence, with acidity and tannins balancing the sugar content.

Pair this sweet sparkling with Provolone Dolce cheese, fruit (apple and pear) and shortbread biscuits. @bottega_africa

Neil Ellis Wines is my 141st South African wine fa Neil Ellis Wines is my 141st South African wine farm visit. They have a “newish” wine tasting centre in Stellenbosch which is absolutely lovely with incredible views.

They didn’t start off like that though, owner Neil Ellis, started winemaking in 1984 and would source grapes from all over Stellenbosch to make his wine in a rented cellar space. Today, this wine has made a brand for itself and is synonymous with top-quality reds! Especially Cabernet Sauvignon.
