What a treat it is to experience where wine started in South Africa – the Constantia Wine Route. For the past 335 years, Constantia has stood proud as the oldest, uninterrupted wine-growing region in the Southern-hemisphere. Now you get the chance to taste through all 9 Constantia Wineries with one ticket this May 2020.
General tickets cost just R200 which enables wine lovers to experience two wine tastings at each of the 9 participating Constantia Wineries. The wines to be tasted will be advertised in the tasting room.
This ticket is valid for the full month of May and can be used on any day of the month! That means you can plan your Uber rides to enjoy 2-3 wineries every weekend in May.

Buitenverwachting’s revival under new ownership came in the early 1980s, as no wine had been made at the historic estate in 30 years. The family-owned property is now a bastion of continuity and quality. Occasional new wines, replanted vineyards and an increased focus on sustainability and social responsibility preserves the property for future generations. Visitors are welcomed to the new Tasting Room, the Coffee Block, and the legendary Buitenverwachting restaurant.

This “Cape Town Big 7” tourist attraction occupies the challenging position of having to be managed both as a national monument, heritage site and model wine farm. Past owners include Simon van der Stel and the Cloete family, who were responsible for putting the famous sweet wines of Constantia on the map, globally, in the 18th and 19th century. Since 1993, Groot Constantia has been owned by the Groot Constantia Trust and operates as a non-profit company. Modern cellar upgrades and careful vineyard management has resulted in a driven range. Guests can visit the estates numerous tasting rooms, the historic manor house museum or either of the two on-site restaurants.

Located on the crest of Constantia Nek pass, this pristine and boutique family-owned vineyard has in recent years gained a striking reputation for both its beauty and award-winning wines. Uniquely characteristic of its wines is its signature of finesse, derived from the cooler climate conditions its vines are exposed to as a result of its elevation and close proximity to the oceanic body that is False Bay, thus delivering very distinctive wines not found elsewhere in SA.

Constantia Glen is a relative newcomer in the old Constantia Wine Route. Situated high on the slopes on the saddle of the Constantia Nek on the way to Houtbay. Added sunlight hours granted in the gap and on the side of Table Mountain in this cool climate wine ward allow for the full ripening of red Bordeaux varieties in this made for area for white wines. The first grapes were planted in 2000 on this family farm producing well-awarded wines. We offer wine tastings daily together with an array of dishes that are produced to suit a world-class experience.

The Du Preez family’s boutique winery at the foot of the Vlakkenberg, at the northern end of the Constantia valley, has a focus on red varietals grown against steep slopes with an altitude of around 350 meters. A commitment to environmental preservation has seen the implementation of measures to take the property ‘off the grid’ as far as possible. Visitors get to taste the impressive wines in the glass-fronted Tasting Room, with Chef’s Warehouse offering lunch and dinner.

Silvermist, in the mountains above Constantia, is the organically certified wine estate in the area and part of the Table Mountain National Park. Having spent over a decade to clear the property of alien vegetation and establishing vines, the Louw family boasts a small production, high quality, range of wines. Guests are welcomed to the top fine-dining restaurant, La Colombe, and the property’s own Silvermist Eatery (from where tasting and sales are facilitated).
