Get ready to drool not only over the views but the gourmet food and wine that De Grendel Estate in the Durbanville Wine Valley has on offer this winter…and there’s specials too!

Available from Tuesdays to Sundays for lunch service only, enjoy 5 courses with wine pairing at R795 per person or 5 courses without wine pairing at R595 per person.

The winter menu changes daily according to availability of ingredients. De Grendel Restaurant‘s modern, creative and locally sourced style is all thanks to Head Chef Ian Bergh.

Ian’s experience is rooted in classical cuisine, having worked with Franck Dangereux at La Colombe and at Kurland, Five Flies and Pure at Hout Bay Manor before joining Jonathan Davies at De Grendel to launch the restaurant in 2012.

The wine…
The Durbanville Wine Region is absolutely well renowned for their outstanding white wines like Sauvignon Blanc and De Grendel triumphs all thanks to Cellar Master Charles Hopkins. My favourite wine of De Grendel Estate this year is hands down the Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2017. 😍 Just look at all those awards!
if you’re not a big fan of white wine, fear not, Cellar Master Charles, is one of South Africa’s most highly regarded winemakers, a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild and former chairman of the South African Wine Show Association. So whatever you choose, it’s going to be amazing!
There’s even a cider!
Furthermore, Charles dedicates a lot of his time to developing budding winemakers with his apprenticeship program. So YouCam be rest assured that whatever he touches, is good, really good! Excellent!
So if you’re really into learning more about winemaking, book a cellar tour!
Cellar tours are available *every weekday at 11h00 and 15h00. The cellar tour costs R80 which includes a tasting of 3 wines and a guided tour through the cellar. You can sit inside or outside to enjoy your wine tasting 😍

Wine tasting options:
- Premium Tasting: R90
- Flagship Tasting: R110

There’s also a range of snacks available, prepared by Chef Ian Bergh, for R195 per selection.
The farm and history…
If you look closely at the De Grendel wine labels, you will notice a family crest with a year…1720. Thats because this estate has belonged to the Graaff family who have played a defining role in the South African political, social and business landscape for over three generations. Even inheriting a “sir” title – a baronet.
There is so much history surrounding this estate and in fact, the estate was far larger than what it is today – originally stretching all the way out to the ocean!
Today, much of the estate is used for vineyards, growing blueberries and even home to many African Game animals.
Farm tours are available every weekday at 11h00. Farm tours are available for a maximum of 10 people at a time. Bookings must be made one week in advance via email to tasting@degrendel.co.za
The De Grendel Farm Tour cost R200 per person which includes the farm tour as well as a flagship tasting in the Tasting Room. R120 for children under the age of 18.
*Not available over weekends. Booking is essential.
