What a better way to spend the day after work than to mingle with new people and taste some good wine!
Top 12 wines is a public blind tasting event that happens every Thursday and Friday in Cape Town or JHB (Also around the world) from 18h00 – 19h30.
Upcoming dates: 16, 23, 30 March (Thursdays).
Times: 18h00 – 19h30
Price: R100 per person.
Bookings: ONLINE HERE
You do not need to be a wine expert, simply list out of the 6 wines you taste, what is your most favourite and least favourite wines. I am looking forward to the one on 30 march because it is a Malbec night <3
The last one I attended was at the awesome Molo Lolo Lodge in Cape Town and it was the “Rosé MCC” category.
And even some awesome breads and cheeses from France!
You cannot see any of the labels so you have no idea what the brand name or prices are. It is just all about the wine. Sit, relax and let the hosts entertain you.
When we taste the wines, we like to share how everyone rates.
I have a system going…
3 (colour); 7 (smell) and 10 (taste) will give you a score out of 20.
But everyone has their own rating system so it is entirely up to you how you would like to rate it.
The results are tallied up and then the labels are revealed!
Here are the results:
Rank | Wine | Price |
1 | Silverthorn The Genie MCC Shiraz Brut Rosé | R 197 |
1 | Bon Courage Jacques Bruére Cuveé Rosé Brut MCC | R 164 |
2 | Lord’s MCC Brut Rosé | R 150 |
3 | Villiera Tradition Brut Rose MCC | R 115 |
5 | Domaine des Dieux Rose of Sharon Brut Rosé MCC | R 164 |
6 | Perdeberg MCC Pinot Noir Rosé | R 117 |
The Genie: Fresh raspberries and sherbet flavours supported by a velvety texture, fine mousse and lengthy finish. 100% Shiraz.
Bon Courage: Strong yeasty nose and a faint lemon and raspberry scent. There is a silkyrichness on the palate full of red berries balanced with a subtle mineral undertone. 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay.
Lords: Hints of cherries complimenting the long crisp aftertaste. A well structured, elegant wine. 100% Pinot Noir.
Viliera Tradition: Rich pink colour, vivacious bubbles and the full rich flavour of Pinot Noir combined with the elegance of Chardonnay and the uniqueness of Pinotage providing the colour. Quite rich in flavour with a long finish. 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinotage, 25% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier
Rose of Sharon: Berries on the nose. Strawberry, black cherry, raspberry notes jump out of the glass with a hint of rose water in the background. The mousse is fine, and soft, following into a clean, dry finish. 100% Pinot Noir.
Perdeberg: Tones of fresh strawberries, watermelon, cherries and sweets on the nose. The palate is crisp, rich and well defined. Complexity will increase over time with biscuit and fresh d dough aromas becoming prominent. 100% Pinot Noir.
It turned out that the one we all enjoyed the most was also the most expensive. It is after-all called “The Genie” – Magic in a bottle 😀
And with views like this…you never want to leave!
Will I see you at the next one?
