HQ Cape Town have paired up with Nederburg Wines every 1st Wednesday of the month to bring you a 3-course food and wine pairing experience for only R295 per person – it’s called HQ Fine Wining and I just had to try it for myself!
The HQ Fine Wining experience is exceptionally good value for money! This incredible price includes a welcome drink, canapé and even live entertainment – yeah, take my money!
This trendy restaurant is located in Shortmarket Street in the heart of Cape Town and is best known for their excellent quality steak, chips and salad. They are also famous for their set menus. Simply book before hand and let the rest of the evening just take it’s course.
Nederburg Wines is promoting their Heritage Hero’s premium range of handmade wines. Each wine is individually named to honour a personality who has played a role in shaping Nederburg’s history and reputation.
My favourite was the Brew Master Bordeaux blend. The Brew Master is named so after Johann Graue, who revolutionised winemaking in South Africa with his clonal experiments to isolate top-performing vines for reproduction, as well as his introduction of cold fermentation techniques. This wine is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Petit Verdot (33%), Merlot (6%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Malbec (5%). 👌
For starters, I enjoyed the Nederburg MCC (Chenin) and oysters…
The HQ Cape Town style is that you first enter into the lounge for canapé and bubbly and then when ready, we get invited into the main dining room where a set menu is served.
For starters, a crisp salad of Cos and Iceberg leaves, toasted pine nuts, parmesan shavings and dressed with a Dijon mustard vinaigrette. Paired with the Nederburg The Anchorman Wooded Chenin Blanc 2017. Super light, crispy and full of flavour. It paired really well with the chenin.
For mains, a 250g Sirloin wet aged for 21 days and grilled perfectly medium-rare, served with skinny fries & café de Paris Butter. Paired with the Nederburg The Brew Master Bordeaux Blend 2015. The steak literally melted in my mouth PLUS the fries are BOTTOMLESS!
For dessert, vanilla & orange sponge crème patisserie with pistachio turkish delight ice cream. Paired with Nederburg The Beautiful Lady Gewürztraminer 2015. By this stage, I was so full yet this light dessert was so tasty, it didn’t feel heavy on the stomach – after-all, there’s always room for dessert 🙂
Overall, the atmosphere was absolutely brilliant. Think Michael Bublé style music in the background (it was sung live by the talented Ricky Botsis), tastefully comfy decor, plus service on anther level – the waiters literally watch you finish so that they can take your plate away in one quick swoop – without you even noticing.
