How do you keep warm this winter? Polkadot macaroons and Stellenbosch Hills Polkadraai Red darling! This super affordable and fun dry red is just R44.50 which makes it perfect for everyday enjoyment. It’s a new Pinotage/Merlot blend recently released by Stellenbosch Hills Wine. There’s a white too!
The Pinotage/Merlot 2018 was aged in French & American oak for 6 months after fermentation so it’s very berry with subtle hints of oak too. 70% Pinotage & 30% Merlot.
So why is this range called Polkadraai? Polkadraai is the country road that connects the vineyards used for this wine. It’s also a reflection of all things polka – from the lively dance that has its roots in Bohemia to the playful polka dot pattern.
Good to know is that every purchase you make contributes to education. A percentage of all Polkadraai wine sales is donated to the Vlottenburg Primary School through the Polka Kids Community Project of which Stellenbosch Hills has been a patron since 2008. The school has some 400 learners that include the younger children of most of the vineyard and winery employees at Stellenbosch Hills.
Be sure to add some of the other Polkadraai wines to your shopping list too. The Pinot Noir Sparkling Rosé is a seductive salmon-coloured sparkling wine that brims with the flavours of berries and the drier Brut Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc is notable for its lively fruit flavours, and crisp acidity. Polkadraai also produces a 3L bag-in-a-box Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot Shiraz blend – the perfect solution when the party gets bigger.
The Stellenbosch Hills tasting room is located at the corner of the R310 and Vlottenburg Road, Stellenbosch. The tasting room is open Monday – Friday: 09h00 – 17h00 and Saturdays: 10h00 – 15h00. It’s closed on Sundays and public holidays.
