What a better way to spend the day after work than to mingle with new people and taste some good wine!

Top 12 wines is a public blind tasting event that happens every Thursday and Friday in Cape Town or JHB (Also around the world) from 18h00 – 19h30.

Upcoming dates: 8, 9, 15 & 16 December 2016. (Thursdays and Fridays).
Times: 18h00 – 19h30
Price: R90 per person.
Bookings: ONLINE HERE

You do not need to be a wine expert, simply list out of the 6 wines you taste, what is your most favourite and least favourite wines. I am looking forward to the one on the 9th because it is Cab Franc night!

The last one I attended was at the awesome Molo Lolo Lodge in Cape Town and it was the “Alternative Red Blends” category.

The organisers are very friendly and provide everything that you need to enjoy the evening. Glasses, rating sheets…

And even some awesome breads and cheeses from France!

You cannot see any of the labels so you have no idea what the brand name or prices are. It is just all about the wine. Sit, relax and let the hosts entertain you.

I learnt how to rate the wines. 3 (colour); 7 (smell) and 10 (taste) will give you a score out of 20.

But everyone has their own rating system so it is entirely up to you how you would like to rate it.

The results are tallied up and then the labels are revealed!

It turned out that the one I ranked first, was not only the majority’s favourite, but I also guessed the brand. Hehe, but I think the unique shape of the bottle gave it away.

Here are the results.

wine rank price*
Hidden Valley Hidden Secret 2014 1 R202
Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2014 2 R265
Plaisir de Merle Petit Plaisir 2014 3 R99
Sijnn Red 2012 4 R250
Welbedacht Hat Trick Red Blend 2012 5 R185
Druk My Niet T3 2011 6 R340

It is interesting to see the corresponding prices.  I lined them  up from cheapest to most expensive. T3 was not only the most expensive, but also the least liked wine. They were all really good wines though!

And this is the order that we tasted them in:

Afterwards, you can socialise, watch the sunset and sip on the left over wine.

Will I see you at the next one?
