Wohoo! I made it to 100 farms! Into the TRIPLE digits and one-eighth of the way through my wine farm list! It’s somewhat humbling to realise that each blog post takes me about 9 hours to produce from organising the visit, capturing the experience, research, photo editing and copywriting. It surely is not the easiest of tasks but it sure is a lot of fun! Farm 100 is the very special Paul René MCC which was introduced to me by entrepreneur, Mira of Hot Oven Marketing. Paul René MCC is a boutique bubbly producer in Robertson that is family run. They are such a lovely family too. #familygoals
About Paul René MCC
Henk van Niekerk is the farmer and bubbly producer whilst his wife, Monica, was the brainchild behind the elegant label design of the label. Henk and Monica moved onto Wonderfontein estate just off Route R62 in Robertson in 2008 and that is when the hard work began. It was only in 2013 when the Paul René brand was established and was named after their first born son, Paul René. They now have a beautiful daughter too and are planning to plant even more Pinot Noir vines this summer.
Paul René MCC Wine Tasting
There are two MCC varieties available, a Brut and a Brut Rosé of which about 12 000 bottles are produced every year. The Brut Rosé is 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay whereas the Brut is 100% Chardonnay. The grapes are hand-picked and each bottle is fermented on the lees for 20-24 months so great care goes into each and every one. Enjoy a vibrant mousse, apricot and green apple freshness, with an elegant dry finish for the Brut. The Brut Rosé is slightly more strawberry with a delightful acidity. I absolutely love this bubbly for birthdays and weddings – I mean, just look how elegant this is!
This bubbly is not just pretty but has already won some awards! The Paul René Chardonnay Brut MCC 2015 won Silver (Veritas 2018) and the Paul René Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Brut Rosé MCC 2015 won Bronze (Veritas 2018).
Each MCC goes for around R190 per bottle and R1140 per box of 6. Bookings for wine tasting are open weekdays 9am-5pm and over weekends by appointment only. Wine tasting is free of charge! Family, friends and even kids are all welcome!
As this was my 100th farm, I was invited for lunch at Henk and Monica’s home which was so wonderful.
Henk and Monica are extremely talented, not only is their home beautiful and their MCC good, but they are GREAT cooks too!We enjoyed salads to start and the MCC paired wonderfully with a Prawn bisque stew!
To book, tickets are available at webtickets via this link: https://www.webtickets.co.za/event.aspx?itemid=1482551207 for R285 per person.
I had a great time at Paul René and I am sure you will too! With thanks to Gabi Sieni for these amazing pics.
So which farm is next? 🙂
